Elisabeth Akinwale Withdraws From Regionals

May 31, 2016

CrossFit Games veteran Elisabeth Akinwale had to withdraw from the Regionals competition this past weekend due to a knee injury, and as a result will not compete at the CrossFit Games later this year…

Here’s what Akinwale had to say about it on her Facebook page:

I wanted to provide a quick update for those who were following me at the Regionals- I made the decision to withdraw due to a knee injury. The initial injury occurred back in April and I’ve been doing everything possible to be ready to perform this weekend, but was very limited in squatting and lifting. After de-loading and continuing treatment I was able to complete the snatch event without pain, but today when I assessed the situation the range of motion and function of my knee were not sufficient to complete today’s events.

I’ve been able to do a lot of things on this knee over the years- a knee that’s had 6 surgeries, including 3 ACL reconstructions. I’m proud of the increase in stability and strength I’ve been able to achieve through training, which makes this all the more disappointing for me. I don’t like to talk about injuries much, I prefer to focus on what needs to be done and not the possible limitations. What needed to be done in this case is that I take care of myself with regard to the big picture. Best wishes to all the competitors are they finish out the weekend.

Butterfly pull-ups can be fun to learn and serve a great purpose for athletes. When the time comes for newbies to practice the butterfly kip, I prefer to use a technique called “Blocking Movement” for Reverse Grip Kipping Pull-ups.
