ANNOUNCING CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
The National Pro Grid League (NPGL) announces Championship Week, a multi-faceted event that delivers the excitement of GRID racing combined with the fun and entertaining family atmosphere we foster for our fans.
If you are a fan of GRID — the world’s first professional coed sport — you are going to want to be in Southern California for the focus of Championship Week: the 2015 NPGL Finals. Whether you can join us in person, or whether you are a fan from afar, we have you covered so you can get the most from the playoffs experience.
The NPGL Finals are sure to offer the most thrilling GRID racing when four teams converge and give it everything they’ve got as they endeavor to hoist the Pinnacle Trophy as the 2015 NPGL Champions. Mix in GRID Invitational matches, where the best in the amateur GRID ranks from around the world battle it out for $50,000 in cash and prizes in the GRID Invitational. Like food, drink, vendors, entertainment and kids’ activities? We’ve got all that covered at GRIDFest.
NPGL FINALS SCHEDULE
The NPGL rocked the sports world in 2014 by offering the first coed professional sports opportunity. Men and women work together on the GRID to entertain fans with their athleticism and precision teamwork. Strategy is as important as the strength and agility required of the players.
Season 2 will culminate with the NPGL Final — where the newly crowned champions will hoist the Pinnacle Trophy, designed by Eleiko.
The match format for the Final will be announced soon. Hint: it will be heavy and it will be fast.
Wednesday, September 16
Western Conference Final: San Francisco Fire vs. Phoenix Rise, 7 p.m. PT/10 pm. ET
This will be the third time these two teams clash on the GRID, and it’s fair to say Phoenix is going to be on point in an attempt to get their first win over San Francisco. The Rise fell to the Fire in the semifinals of the 2014 playoffs. The Fire were victorious again in their Week 1 match in June, winning by the smallest possible margin of 1 point while bringing the packed house of hometown fans to their feet. Can the Fire keep the streak going?
Thursday, September 17
Eastern Conference Final: DC Brawlers vs. Boston Iron, 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET
The DC Brawlers have never tasted defeat. But they were tested by a tough New York Rhinos squad in their match on August 23 when it was tied at 15 points heading into the final race. The defending champs pulled out the victory and will bring their winning ways to try and hold off a Boston Iron team coming into the playoffs with momentum from back-to-back wins — their first as a club.
But this Eastern Conference Final also is a rematch, as the Brawlers handily defeated the Iron 23-11 in the first match of this season on June 16.
Sunday, September 20
NPGL Final: Western Conference winner vs. Eastern Conference winner, 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET
The Pinnacle is unlike any trophy you’ve seen before. The entire trophy, custom engineered for the NPGL Final, is made of machined parts (6061 aluminum) and the main body was formed from two large castings made of A356 aluminum. All the aluminum parts are polished, chrome plated and assembled.
The trophy handles are cut from an Eleiko bar. The handles are fastened to the assembled aluminum body of the trophy from the inside so the handles give the appearance of being one piece as part of the trophy body. The Eleiko steel and chrome plating of the trophy are found in all Eleiko bars.
Look for this work of art to be hoisted and passed around — and surely kissed — at the championship match on September 20.
